Gaun School

Gaun Menifesto- A Vision for Gaun School

Our Journey Is to Make Memories

Memory is our compass. It comes in two forms—fact or fiction. But for us, it’s both at once. A gray area. Neither clear nor fuzzy. It glows from within and smokes at the edges.

Memory is what guides us.Memory is what created Gaun School.

Gaun means village.
And a village means support— a place where people help people.
You know thousands of people from seven villages in every direction of the radius. If they are not neighbors, they are guests. That’s what we believe learning should feel like: belonging.

Gaun School is a free film school.
Not virtual. Not a website with sign-up buttons. It’s in-person, hands-on, open.

You come.

You learn to make a film.

You build a community of art.

We don’t ask for tuition. We don’t ask for donations. We only ask for arrangements— a shared meal, a ride, a room, a light. But the school must remain free for students.

Because we believe: Education is not a transaction— it is a transformation.

If you want to support us, don’t give us money. Make your own village. Arrange your own school.

That is how Gaun grows.

And maybe—just maybe—
you can donate your gear or equipment, the ones you’ve been thinking of as junk. Even in your absence, others can learn from them. There is no such thing as junk in the process of making art.
Dysfunctional things are often the best resources.

They teach us to imagine, to adapt, to create beyond the manual – and eventually, make memories.

Courses may last a day or three months. We meet where we are. Because connection is the heart of memory, and memory is the heart of storytelling.

I don’t claim to be a teacher. I want to be your neighbor.

We’ll learn from each other through imperfections. And imperfections aren’t flaws— they are space for possibilities.

We are not perfect. But good memories come from accepting our imperfections. That’s who we are. And that’s who Gaun School is for.
